When individuals in Pittsburgh are arrested and convicted of sex crimes, they can face steep penalties. Depending on the crime, an individual may spend decades in prison and leave prison only to face a lifetime on the sex offender registry.

Stephen was arrested in the early 1980s for a series of rapes. Unfortunately, Stephen was wrongly arrested, wrongly convicted and wrongly imprisoned. Regardless, he spent the next 25 years in prison for rapes that he did not commit.

Eventually, additional DNA evidence was tested, and he was exonerated in 2008. In an effort to compensate him for the years that he was wrongly imprisoned, the state gave him $4 million tax-free dollars.

Unfortunately, almost as soon as he was out of prison, his legal troubles started again. First, he was involved in a long battle with his criminal defense attorney regarding the cost of his legal bills.

Then, after he resolved the dispute with his attorney, his ex-wife claimed that she was entitled to a portion of the money. The couple had been married for 10 years, and most of that time was while Stephen was in prison. However, Stephen says that she rarely visited after he had been in for three years. He doesn't think she deserves any of the money. "She didn't do that time. She didn't visit me down in prison or take care of me."

His ex-wife claims she didn't visit because Stephen grew bitter and shared troubling stories with her. Thankfully, Stephen's attorney said it doesn't seem like there is a good chance that his ex will receive any of the money.
