We've written a few posts about the sexual abuse allegations against the former Syracuse University basketball coach, Bernie Fine. Our last post on the topic discussed allegations against the man who is accusing the coach.
Zach accused Bernie of sexually molesting him in a hotel room in Pittsburgh. Zach was arrested in April for allegedly sexually assaulting a boy at a day camp where he worked. On Tuesday, Zach entered a plea deal, which will limit the amount of time he will spend in prison.
Zach was facing several charges, but the guilty plea dropped many of the charges. He pleaded guilty to gross sexual assault, unlawful sexual contact and two counts of visual sexual aggression.
He was originally facing nearly one dozen charges, and he could have been sentenced for as long as 12 years in prison. He will not be sentenced until February, but at that time he cannot be sentenced to more than three years in prison.
Zach said he entered the plea deal because he feels bad about the pain he inflicted on the 13-year-old, who is the younger brother of a friend. After he was arrested in April, Zach was prohibited from having contact minors. Although he was arrested last week for a probation violation, the judge dismissed those charges when Zach entered the guilty plea.
Last week, Zach also filed a lawsuit against Bernie Fine, saying he has suffered "severe mental anguish and horror" because of the alleged abuse from Bernie.
