Indecent exposure is one of the most common sex crimes in Pennsylvania. Individuals who face charges for indecent exposure are often arrested as part of sting operations, and in many situations, the case may seem straightforward. A person's sexual organs were exposed or they were not.
However, one man was recently arrested for indecent exposure in a bathroom. Several local news sources that covered the story lacked details explaining what happened prior to the arrest. It's tough to know whether that reflects incomplete reporting, or if the lack of is reflective of the, perhaps wrongful, arrest.
Regardless, if there is one place where a man is justified in being exposed, then the bathroom is certainly that place.
Last week, a retired Catholic priest was arrested during a crackdown of sexual activities at a local park. The 61-year-old priest was one of six people arrested on Thursday, and each of the men is facing similar charges.
According to one news report, the priest also told the undercover police officer that he was familiar with the term "cruising," which is a street term that describes searching for a sexual partner in a public place. It is unclear whether the police officer asked if the priest knew the term or if the priest volunteered the information, perhaps suggesting an interest in something more intimate.
When the archdiocese learned of the priest's arrest, the priest's faculties, or ability to function as a priest, were revoked. The priest was not taken to jail, and he was released without posting bail. Hopefully working with an experienced criminal defense attorney can help ensure his case moves in the right direction.
